Plans for a lamp were a little ambitious. I completely miscalculated how much material I would need, so the form changed to a bud vase. I turned two, the first one (pictured above) went pretty well. The large quantities of glue were hard on the tools, but it has some interesting patterns on it.
The second glue up was a complete disaster. The laser had to be so intense to cut through the ply wood, it basically turned it into charcoal. I tried turning it and it crumbled and flew from the lathe, not the safest thing I’ve ever done. I’m going to try this process on other types of wood (oak, pine, maple) to see if it is as interesting and easier to work with.
